Queens, New York

July 10-16, 2011

This coming summer, July 10th-16th, 25 people from The Point Youth Ministry will be heading to Queens, New York.  As one of five boroughs in New York City, Queens is one of the most diverse communities in the world.  You can share in these many cultures just by visiting a local restaurant, cultural institution or nature park.  Amongst the excitement of the city, there are those who face daily challenges with poverty.  We can reach out to the urban parts of Queens by serving children, the elderly & others as we partner with local organizations to shine the light of Christ.

This trip provides an opportunity to meet the physical & spiritual needs of a community that is desperately in need.  We value your prayers for our team & those whose lives will be touched by God through us.  We believe that God answers prayers, & we’re asking you to pray for safety, good health, smooth travel, & financial support.  Just knowing that you will be praying will give us peace as we go into an unfamiliar place.
Our Group will consist of students entering 10th grade in the fall of 2011 – students completing 12th grade in the spring of 2011.
We’ll be housed in Queens @ an area church, school or community center, sleeping on classroom floors.
We will leave CFCOG @ 12:30 pm on Sunday, July 10th & arrive @ our destination between 4:30 & 6 pm.  Our week long journey will conclude on Friday @ 9:30 am.  As a group, we’ll experience New York City for a day, stay in a hotel that night, & arrive home to CFCOG on Saturday, July 16th.
For this mission trip we’ll be partnering with YouthWorks.  Youthworks is a youth mission organization created to serve youth, communities & the church.  It is a multi-denominational ministry that provides youth with a life-changing experience by allowing them to be the hands & feet of Christ & to see God move in a new way.  The mission trip opens students’ eyes to both situations & relationships in different communities & allows them to serve side by side with their peers, learn from leaders & deepen their relationship with Jesus.  You can learn more about YouthWorks @ the web page, www.youthworks.com
YouthWorks requires $288.00 per person.  To be added to that total will be transportation costs; traveling meals; tolls; etc.  In the end, the total cost per student will be approximately $400.00.  Beyond your prayers, if you are led to join us by financially supporting this mission, we would be grateful.  We will need to be creative to raise the money, & we are extending this invitation to you to participate.
